A while back I did a setup to route audio into Ableton. It’s still useful but there’s a more simpler method. Unlike the first setup it’s not 100% free to do. I’ll be using Zoom, a software called Loopback and the MPC.
For Zoom you have to set your speaker to the built-in output, and set the microphone to Loopback. That’s pretty much it but when having a meeting I try to have original sound for musicians turned on. I noticed when it’s turned off I couldn’t get any audio to pick up in the recording.
In Loopback there’s a few things I needed to have in place. This is the software that’ll connect our audio and send it to Zoom proper. For my case I want a microphone source to capture my voice (toggle off the microphone to remove feedback) and a source to capture the MPC audio (mute when capturing should be unchecked). You create an output channel in order to hear the MPC’s audio.
And finally, in the MPC you just make sure the input and output are set to the system’s built-in settings.
Once all that is in order, load up Zoom to create a session and hit record. At this point, I’m getting audio received from my mic and the MPC by Zoom. This is useful for making podcasts, beat sessions and streaming them if desired since Zoom has that functionality. So while the other setup still works I found this way to be the one for me going forward.
